Nouadhibou – December 2025

Nouadhibou – December 2025

Date: December 2025

Location: Nouadhibou

Activity performed:

During the first week of December 2025, we conducted a working expedition to Nouadhibou, Mauritania, with a very clear objective: to get to know the areas, people, and institutions with which we will begin our health cooperation at the end of March 2026.

The expedition was carried out by Pablo Juárez del Dago and Yasmina Pérez, accompanied throughout the journey by Brahim Ahmed, a collaborator with the Nouadhibou City Council, whose support and knowledge of the local context greatly facilitated our work and institutional meetings.

During our stay, we visited several municipal medical centers, where we were able to see firsthand the daily reality of healthcare professionals, listen to their needs, and begin to build future lines of collaboration based on listening and respect.

One of the key moments of the trip was the visit to the Nuadibú City Hall, where we held a meeting with the mayor and his team. This meeting was a very important first institutional step toward aligning objectives, establishing common priorities, and laying the foundations for solid and sustainable cooperation.

The expedition also included visits to a center for children with autism and a maternity center. This visit was particularly relevant for us, as our work focuses not only on male urology, but also on female and pediatric urology. In this context, we were able to see firsthand the high incidence of urological pathologies in women, such as urinary incontinence resulting from traumatic childbirth, a reality that directly impacts the quality of life of many women. Our commitment is to be able to accompany and help them in this area as well, incorporating these types of pathologies into the future health cooperation actions that we will develop in Nouadhibou.

We also visited the Spanish Consulate in Nouadhibou, which was a very valuable opportunity to share our vision and strengthen the institutional ties that accompany this type of initiative.

Impact:

This trip has been a fundamental first step in getting to know the local context and beginning to build trusting relationships with the people and institutions we will be working with. The cooperation we want to develop is based on presence, listening, and long-term commitment.

On our return to Gran Canaria, we met with Carmelo Ramírez Marrero, Councilor for Institutional Cooperation and International Solidarity of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, with the aim of studying possible avenues of collaboration that would strengthen and accompany the development of our projects in Nouadhibou.
